Going Postal

Starting on Sunday, December 18 at 11:00 PDT (18:00Z) and ending at 14:00 PDT (21:00Z)

The US Postal Service has gone on strike! A week's worth of mail is piled up at Los Angeles International and needs to be taken to Las Vegas.

From there, it's being taken by trucks to the North Las Vegas and Henderson airports for distribution to smaller local airports, including:

Shoshone
Stovepipe Wells
Beatty
Jean
Sky Ranch
Perkins
St George Municipal
Grand Canyon National
Grand Canyon West

ZLA is partnering with Half Moon Aviation from northern California to help distribute the mail from North Las Vegas and Henderson to fields listed above. Pilots with pistons, turboprops, or bizjets are asked to join in by making mail runs in/out of North Las Vegas and Henderson to any/all of the fields above, VFR or IFR.

Those wanting to fly bigger jets are asked to help haul the mail from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

This event serves the needs of two distinctly different types of pilot. There's an opportunity to fly the busy KLAX-KLAS route, with full ATC support along the way, something which will appeal to many VA pilots. There's also an opportunity for those who like to experience smaller towered fields (North Las Vegas and Henderson), along with some short haul trips to nearby non-towered fields.
