Straight on 'til Morning- Thursday August 26th @ 1800 PST for 72 HOURS ZLA is staffing up its center for 72 hours straight, giving you the best controlling possible, and shattering records in the process. Ever go through the laborious process of loading flight simulator, squawkbox and any other utilities you might have, file your flight plan, and connect to VATSIM only to find that the controller(s) you saw on Servinfo just moments ago has since disconnected? It happens to everyone - and it's nobody's fault - we're all here as volunteers of our time. But starting Thursday August 26th and going 72 hours to the following Sunday night, you won't have to worry about being controller-less anywhere in the Los Angeles ARTCC. ZLA will be staffing up its center and other positions starting Thursday the 26th at 6pm PST, and straight on 'til morning - well actually way beyond that! So be sure to stop by and say "hi" sometime in that 72 hours of nonstop ATC - and bring your copilot too! Note to pilots: On Thursday evening, all major ZLA airports will go into alternate operations. We HIGHLY recommend setting Squawkbox weather to ON, and disabling any other weather-generating utility (Activesky, FS-Meto etc.), as this will ensure that your weather will match up with what controllers will be using. If you use real-world weather any source other than Squawkbox, your weather will not match up to what our controllers will use. If you use LAX Simflyers scenery with FS9, please download this revised AFCAD file, which will enable the ILS for runways 6L and 7R. Here's what you can expect with regard to flightplanning during alternate operations:
