TECtonics - Saturday July 31st at 1100 local

On Saturday, July 31, we at the Los Angeles ARTCC will bring you, our pilots, yet another ground-breaking event. And when we say ground-breaking, the pun is certainly intended!: TECtonics, as we've named it, is an event that will allow pilots to take advantage of the many Tower Enroute Control (TEC) routes found within our Southern California (SOCAL) tracon and its outlying approach sectors.

What are TEC routes?! Very simple. "TEC routes" is basically a fancy phrase for saying you will stay within approach airspace for the duration of your flight. Basically this means we'll be staffing up certain SOCAL airports as well as Santa Barbara (SBA), Point Mugu (NTD), and Palm Springs (PSP) for your piloting enjoyment. You can fly from KSBA to KPSP without ever having to contact center. That's just how 'staffed' up we'll be!

CALLING ALL HEAVY METAL PILOTS - this event is a chance for you to return to the nostalgia of those regional jets and props to experience some of the most fascinating scenery, challenging approaches, and professional ATC ZLA has to offer. This event serves as an opportunity for you to fly into places like John-Wayne (SNA), an airport that has some of the strictest noise abatement procedures in the world, or hop over to Palm Springs (PSP) where you can find one of the most challenging approaches in the world, having to swoop your jet or prop down amongst the many mountains in order to even see the field. PSP and SNA are only two of the fourteen airports whose tower cabs we'll have staffed and waiting for you.

What if I want to fly to an airport that doesn't have its tower staffed but is in socal's airspace? Excellent! All of Socal's approach tracons will be staffed plus Santa Barbara, Point Mugu, and Palm Springs approach! So come on down with whatever aircraft you think can handle the rigors of ZLA and we'll see you in the sky on Saturday July 31st at 11:00 PST!
