Joshua Approach (EDW)

POC: Facility Advisory Board

Date: 2009-08-27

Code: ZLA-550

Version: 2.00

1. PURPOSE.

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines the procedures to be used by controllers working at the Hi-Desert TRACON (hereafter referred to as "Joshua" to ensure the smooth operation of the sector and to ensure that handoffs to other facilities are done in as efficient and timely a manner as possible).

2. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

The Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) for this SOP is the ZLA Facility Advisory Board. This SOP was originally signed by Jeff Clark, ZLA Facility Chief on September 29, 2002.

3. DISTRIBUTION.

This SOP is intended for use by controllers staffing a Joshua position, as well as those working adjacent CTR positions at ZLA.

4. REQUIREMENTS

a. Frequency:

Joshua Approach consists of two sectors, EDW_APP and PMD_APP. EDW_APP controllers are responsible for both EDW_APP and PMD_APP (unless PMD_APP is separately staffed, or it's coordinated otherwise). PMD_APP is responsible for just PMD_APP airspace.

EDW_APP shall use 124.55 as its normal frequency. PMD_APP shall use 126.1 as its normal frequency.

b. Airspace:

EDW APP and PMD_APP shall own all airspace depicted as "EDW APP" and "PMD_APP" in the sector file, at and below 13,000 MSL within PMD_APP airspace, and at and below FL600 within EDW_APP airspace.

c. Valley Arrivals

BUR and VNY arrivals will be handed to PMD_APP, on the LYNXX arrival, descending to cross WOOLI at 14,000.

PMD_APP shall instruct these aircraft to cross JANNY at and maintain 8000 and hand them off to BUR APP.

d. KIMMO Arrivals

Aircraft routed via the KIMMO arrival to LAX or SMO will be handed to PMD_APP descending to 14000. These aircraft shall be handed to BUR_APP at an altitude between 8000 and 14,000, with SMO arrivals below LAX arrivals.
