Joshua Approach (EDW)

POC: Facility Advisory Board

Date: 2002-09-30

Code: ZLA-550

Version: 1.30

1. PURPOSE.

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines the procedures to be used by controllers working at the Hi-Desert TRACON (hereafter referred to as "Joshua" to ensure the smooth operation of the sector and to ensure that handoffs to other facilities are done in as efficient and timely a manner as possible.

2. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

The Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) for this SOP is the ZLA Facility Advisory Board. This SOP was originally signed by Jeff Clark, ZLA Facility Chief on September 29, 2002.

3. DISTRIBUTION.

This SOP is intended for use by controllers staffing the Joshua position, as well as those working adjacent CTR positions at ZLA.

4. REQUIREMENTS.

a. Frequency:

Joshua Approach (EDW_APP) shall use 124.55 as it's normal frequency.

b. Airspace:

EDW APP shall own all airspace depicted as "EDW APP" on the TRACON Graphic, at and below 13,000 MSL, and within the lateral boundaries of R-2508, up to and including FL600.

c. VCV Departures:

(1) Routing:

Aircraft departing the VCV airport may be cleared as follows:

RWY 3/35: after departure turn left heading 220, expect vectors (to the next fix)

RWY 17/21: after departure turn right heading 325, expect vectors (to the next fix)

No other initial departure headings are authorized due to high terrain in the vicinity. Controllers are reminded that they may not vector aircraft off these initial departure headings until the aircraft have climbed through the appropriate MVA for their position.

Controllers must also be aware of the extremely high MVAs located immediately south of the VCV airport. In many cases, aircraft will be more efficiently routed via victor airways as their MEAs are often much lower than the surrounding MVAs.

e. Burbank Arrivals

LAX_B_CTR will hand-off to EDW_APP arrivals to Burbank on the LYNXX arrival, descending to cross WOOLI at 14,000.

If open, EDW APP shall further descend the aircraft to cross JANNY at and maintain 8000 before handing them off to BUR APP.
